At Dwight Seoul, we believe that the arts play an integral role in education. By providing students with opportunities to express themselves through creative and performing arts, students leave with a deep appreciation for the arts in all its forms. There are a variety of opportunities for students to express themselves in drama, theater, music and film.
IN THIS SECTION
Students are exposed to film, music, drama, and art from around the world. By inviting students to practice and experience art movements, styles, and genres from varying cultures around the world, we are able to showcase the powerful role that arts play in communication and global perspective.
Hands-on learning is encouraged in our arts programs, allowing students in the early years, Primary school. Middle Years Program, and Diploma Program to express themselves through various art mediums.
Self-reflection on artistic progress is encouraged through journaling exercises and presentations.
By the time students at Dwight Seoul complete the IBDP curriculum, they have developed a sophisticated sense of appreciation for the arts, allowing them to approach all works with a discerning eye and perceptive ear.
Students are able to apply their newfound knowledge of and passion for the arts through exhibitions, concerts, performances and more, through exhibitions, concerts performances and more.
Our students are involved in the bigger picture on a global level – annual participation in the Dwight London Choir Festival, and the Dwight Global Music Festival in New York City, Shanghai, Seoul, and Dubai. Students also have opportunities to engage in various events around South Korea through KIMEA (Korean International Music Educators Association) and KIDEA (Korean International Drama Educators Association).
Applied Arts
Our film and media courses combine the freedom of self-expression with the latest technology in order to provide students with an opportunity to experience this artistic medium.
Our visual arts programmes expose students to artistic works from cultures and communities around the world, allowing them to understand the creative process better while honing their own skills.
Performing Arts
The immersive, hands-on music programs at Dwight Seoul emphasize the importance of developing listening, performance and composition skills.
Middle Year students are able to participate in drama, while those in our Diploma Programme have the opportunity to participate in theater. Both programs emphasis creative expression and collaboration, allowing students to create awe-inspiring performance pieces.
The school production is a community effort in which students have an opportunity to work as actors, singers, musicians, stage managers, designers, technicians, and more.
A variety of music ensembles such as orchestra, band, and choir are offered as activities for lower school and upper school students who are interested in developing group performance skills.
