grade 9

Emphasizing self-discovery with an introduction to career possibilities.

  • Self-discovery is a priority throughout Grade 9, as students at our international school in Korea work to understand their strengths and interests. We actively support self-discovery through interest profiles and character assessments.

  • We work to introduce students to various career options available, so they can begin exploring university programs that might interest them.

  • Students are encouraged to participate in after-school clubs and activities so that they can begin building their student profiles.

  • All Grade 9 students enjoy a Pathway to Graduate presentation that helps them understand that the path towards university begins now. This engaging presentation outlines actionable steps they can begin to take to accomplish their personal career goals.

  • Grade 9 parents are invited to UCC Coffee Sessions, which are scheduled throughout the year. These sessions provide parents with additional information about how they can support their students and begin preparing for the university admissions process.

grade 10

Combining the importance of reflection with on-site visits from prospective universities.

  • The self-discovery process continues through Grade 10, highlighting yet another reason why we are considered the best international school in Seoul. Students in this grade level use journals in order to reflect on their progress and consider the next best steps for their personal goals.

  • On-site university visits are scheduled throughout the year, and Grade 10 students are encouraged to attend as many of these visits as possible. These visits allow students to learn more about available university programs and better understand which type of university will best suit their needs.

  • Students are encouraged to take the PSAT 10 in the fall.

  • Students are required to complete a Summer Plan Schedule, which outlines what they need to do before they begin the IBDP curriculum.

  • Students and their parents schedule a one-on-one visit with a representative from the UCC office in order to begin selecting their Diploma Program courses for the next academic year.

  • Grade 10 parents are invited to UCC Coffee Sessions, which are scheduled throughout the year. These sessions are explicitly directed at Grade 10 parents and provide them with detailed information about what they can expect as their child gets started with the IBDP curriculum.

grade 11

Kicking off the university admissions process with preparation, research and community support.

  • The university admissions process starts each year with the UCC Grade 11 Student & Parent Night. This event provides families with detailed information about what is involved in the university admissions process and the steps they can take to prepare in advance of the summer application season.

  • Students complete college-bound surveys in order to begin to determine which universities will be the right fit for their personal and professional goals. The results of these surveys allow students to focus on the criteria needed from a specific university for it to be a good fit for them. Through self-reflection, students begin to understand what values and programs are most important to them.

  • As students begin to build their list of schools they intend to apply to, they are introduced to research tools that allow them to compare their options. These tools help them balance the likelihood of their admission along with their personal needs and preferences.

  • Students are invited to attend specialised learning sessions that dive into the details of the university admissions process. Session topics include Dwight Seoul application processes and procedures, general application requirements for various countries, the Dwight Seoul application management platform, tips and strategies for writing college essays, and an overview of application platforms, such as Common Application, OUAC and UCAS.

  • Students begin their summer break with an understanding of what needs to be done to be ready to submit applications during their senior year. They are required to complete the first drafts of their admissions essays and their resume before the start of the next academic year.

grade 12

Finalizing applications through individualized support and guidance from counselors.

  • Fellowship and support define senior year at Dwight Seoul as the UCC Grade 12 Student & Parent Night kicks off the academic year. At this event, families receive detailed information and additional support as the college admissions process begins in earnest.

  • Students and families schedule an individual appointment with the Director of UCC in order to finalize their list of universities, submit their agreements and identify the next steps in the admissions process.

  • Counselors provide students with additional one-on-one sessions in order to support them as they finalize their resumes, supplements, interviews and essays.

  • On-site university visits are scheduled on a regular basis. Grade 12 students are encouraged to attend as many on-site visits as possible before they finalize their college lists.

  • Throughout the academic year, Grade 12 students are invited to participate in Group Sessions that offer additional support during this transitional period.

  • The UCC Office serves as an advocate for all students, often working directly with families as students begin to receive their acceptance letters and make their final decisions.
